Lower Jueno, that is, Downtown Shiva
Black Mage:56 White Mage:52 Warrior:56 Thief:67
Lower Jueno, this is the center of attraction for the game. In it you can check on one of many items you have up for auction. You put things up for auction so that you can make money you see. The goal is to sell items for a profit. Then you use this profit to pay for chocobos, buy arrows, buy food, or even buy medicines. And though many people look down upon people that raise prices when they know they have a high demand item, anyone educated knows that it's simply a result of perceived demand.
The more you want something that someone else has and they know it, the more they charge you even for the time you spend wanting it or for the knowledge of how to get it.
This used to allow pool players a huge advantage of sorts because no matter how skilled you became and how practiced you were, if you were denied certain "secrets" of the game, you would forever find yourself losing to someone with some plain old wisdom, someone perhaps not even that smart.
This is how it is in FFXI. Without a common reference to go to, like Allackhazam for example, we would have no resource. We would be left without a huge mass of community information that allows people to go there and at least see what items do, nevermind looking up information on quests and ZM and Promathia that give you the "wisdom" of how to get those items. So at least on that level we all have the same ability to look up information for what we want to know.
But the community feeling ends there. We are all competitors vying for that stingy gil dollar. We want noone to show up to the AH with the same goods we are trying to sell. And if it so happens that the last one was sold 5 minutes ago for 1k more than the previous one and 15 of them sold today, it's just normal to expect someone like me to JACK it up another 5k, cuz I ain't the poor people with their broke back horses sittin around, I gotta USE that money for the greater good of society which includes making me smug with happiness.
Well, I guess it's no wonder prices are goin up. But think of it this way, if you sell your stack of Bat Wings for 10k, instead of the 3k they used to sell for, at least NOW you can afford to take the Chocobo at the Crag of Mea for a change.
